Today, I saw two Bittern at the same time at Klingnau Stausee in Switzerland. Suddenly, one of them took off. I have seen flying bittern before, although it is rare, but I have never seen a fishing bittern before. In springtime You hear them all the time, but they are very shy and difficult to spot. Klingnau is a very nice excursion from Zürich, where I live, and full of wings. Headed gulls in winter plumage, possibly migrants from Sweden where I used to live, and kingfishers pass by all the time. But kingfishers seldom come very close, so You have to come up with some alternative framing.
