Todays camera equipment give me the choice to make both overview and close-up pictures from the same shot serie simply by cropping. It is especially useful on the webb where I don´t have to use all pixels. But mostly I prefer to show animals in their environment. It also shows that they are really wild animals and not photographed under controlled conditions.
